Review and Submit

The following is applicable solely to our Open Submissions service, but... this is currently closed (wef 01 May 2017)). All other submiision activity has its own separate submission guidelines.

We will happily review your play, pantomime or musical, under these conditions:-

  • it must have been performed on stage in a single amateur, fringe or professional production of at least three performances in front of a ticketed audience, OR
  • it must have been written by a professional writer (for whom a previous production is not a pre-requisite),OR
  • it has been previously published, AND
  • where, should we find the material suitable for our catalogue, the writer is (or the writers are) willing to start a contractual discussion with us.

Please remember that we do not publish and therefore cannot review :-

  • screenplays for films/movies,
  • scripts for television or radio (unless it is a theatrical adaptation)
  • fiction or non-fiction books of any description

Also, please check that we do not already have works with the same title as (except for pantomimes) it is unlikely that we would want to duplicate.

Please make sure before you submit that you have read our Contents And Style Manual, that your play, panto or musical is formatted in one of our acceptable formats, and that the submitted documents are not heavily watermarked, overprinted, or similarly obscured.

We aim to read and respond within a two month period, but on occasions it may take longer. If you haven't heard from us after three months, then please contact us for an update.

Please note that submitting your work will not guarantee you a place in the Stagescripts catalogue. By submitting, you demonstrate to us a serious intent that you are willing and able to enter into contractual discussions in the event that we decide to start such a discussion.

The reviewer will study your material carefully, and using their knowledge of the industry, will form an opinion as to its commercial viability as a publishable and reproducible piece of theatre.
